Illustrating the Circulatory System: A Return to the Chaikof Vascular Atlas
I recently completed illustration work for the second edition of Atlas of Vascular Surgery and Endovascular Therapy, edited by Dr. Elliot L. Chaikof. This project marked a return to a familiar and rewarding collaboration, one that expanded significantly in scope and scale.
For this new edition, I created over 100 brand-new illustrations and colorized hundreds more, updating and refining content across numerous chapters. Working closely with individual chapter authors and the Elsevier editorial team, I focused on ensuring each illustration clearly captured complex anatomy, techniques, and surgical approaches in vascular and endovascular therapy.

The atlas itself is a comprehensive surgical reference designed to support clinical decision-making, education, and procedural planning. The visuals play a central role, guiding readers through everything from open repairs to catheter-based interventions with clarity and precision.
Projects like this are always a challenge, and a joy. They’re a reminder of how impactful medical illustration can be when it’s integrated thoughtfully into clinical resources. I’m proud to have contributed to a resource trusted by vascular surgeons worldwide.
